چکیده

Advances in atomic resolution electron imaging now promise a detailed understanding of nanostructures and their interfaces, as well as defects. A major challenge in nanostructure characterization is the study of 3D interfaces that deviate significantly from a flat, 2D, interface. Here, we report a significant progress in the study of 3D interfaces by examining local displacements of Au atoms near surface steps on rutile (TiO2) (110) surface. The study was carried out using atomic resolution Z-contrast imaging. The local atomic structure and strain is determined using a recently developed lattice analysis method, called TeMA, based on the analysis of atomic resolution images using template matching [1].

Interaction of atomic hydrogen with monometallic Au(100), Cu(100), Pt(100) surfaces and surface of bimetallic Au@Cu(100), Au@Pt(100) overlayer systems: The role of magnetism

The spin-polarized calculations in generalized gradient approximation density–functional theory (GGA–DFT) have been used to show how the existence of second metals can modify the atomic hydrogen adsorption on Au (100), Cu (100), and Pt (100) surfaces. The computed adsorption energies for the atomic hydrogen adsorbed at the surface coverage of 0.125 ML (monolayer) for the monometallic Au (100), ...

A computational investigation of H2 adsorption and dissociation on Au nanoparticles supported on TiO2 surface.

The specific role played by small gold nanoparticles supported on the rutile TiO2( 110) surface in the processes of adsorption and dissociation of H2 is discussed. It is demonstrated that the molecular and dissociative adsorption of H2 on Au(n) clusters containing n = 1, 2, 8 and 20 atoms depends on cluster size, geometry structure, cluster flexibility and the interaction with the support mater...

Structure of a model TiO2 photocatalytic interface.

The interaction of water with TiO2 is crucial to many of its practical applications, including photocatalytic water splitting. Following the first demonstration of this phenomenon 40 years ago there have been numerous studies of the rutile single-crystal TiO2(110) interface with water. This has provided an atomic-level understanding of the water-TiO2 interaction. However, nearly all of the prev...

UV and visible light photocatalytic activity of Au/TiO2 nanoforests with Anatase/Rutile phase junctions and controlled Au locations

To magnify anatase/rutile phase junction effects through appropriate Au decorations, a facile solution-based approach was developed to synthesize Au/TiO2 nanoforests with controlled Au locations. The nanoforests cons®isted of anatase nanowires surrounded by radially grown rutile branches, on which Au nanoparticles were deposited with preferred locations controlled by simply altering the order o...
